New Issues for 07 are now shipping!        Check  out the new Doc Severinsen charts

Dear Friend of Jazz (and Big Band charts):

ATTENTION ! Our FAX NUMBER is changed to 509-928-2350.  Please use that number and change your files.  Thanks.

Welcome (or welcome back) to the website.  In late August we sent out our
newest

addendum to our catalog along with our newest demonstration CD 117.

So far, the response has been overwhelming ( a nice problem, huh?). If you did not get a copy

of the addendum and our new demonstration CD 117, we'll be happy to send that to you free

of charge. If you need a copy of our last complete (62 pages) catalog (30th Year), and/or last

year's addendum (31st year), just call the toll-free number (1-800-255-6551). You can also e-mail

a request to info@sierramusic.com.  All of the information in these catalog/addendums is right here online, however.

The rest of our demos are still available, but I can't say how long that will be true. If you need
any of our previous 14 demo CDs, you should get them now. You don't really need these demos,

as all of the audio clips for all of our pieces are now available right here on this site.  Just click

on the blue catalog number in the description for each piece. However, they are great to have to

listen to in your car or at any remote location.

The BIG NEWS this year (2007-2008) is the addition to our catalog of the music written
for Doc Severinsen and his late-night TV band which he led on the Johnny Carson Show for years.

This library is an amazing collection of the music written for that band
over almost 25 years by the likes of Bill Holman, Tommy Newsom, John
Bambridge and many others.  These charts are quite flexible in that,
although Doc was a strong force and prominent soloist with the band, we have
taken the liberty of "tweeking" them a little to allow for performance with
other soloists if necessary.  The charts can be played with 4 or 5 trumpets and 3 or 4
trombones, in addition to the normal saxophones and rhythm section.  All of Doc's
CDs (Amherst Records) are available online in a number of places. That makes it

possible to hear the full, professional performances of these charts.

Please check out our current New Issues, 27 terrific new Big Band charts.
The addition this year of one more of the marvelous arrangements by Fred
Sturm of the music of Astor Piazzolla  (with more to come)  is a wonderful
thing, and we continue to bring you great music from the great big bands of
Stan Kenton, Bill Holman, Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Bill Potts, Benny Carter,
Oliver Nelson, Maynard Ferguson, Shorty Rogers and Les Hooper,  as well as
my own band.  If you can't find something, look in New Issues 2007 first.

I would like to point out the arrangement done by Rob Pronk of Frank
Strazzeri's marvelous tune "Opals." I have loved this chart for years, after
hearing the 1990 recording done by Bill Perkins with the Metropole Orchestra
("I Wished on the Moon"). It is a superb chart on a marvelous tune. I am
proud of the fact that we can bring it to you.

COMMERCIAL (full length recordings) CD information

As always, Bill Holman's music is marvelous (Look for his charts in his series

and in the Stan Kenton Series).  We have two new charts from
his new CD "Hommage." Other Bill Holman charts (last year) are from the
"Bill Holman Band Live"CD. Both CDs can be purchased at www.jazzedmedia.com.

For those of you who have purchased Oliver Nelson charts in the past, and
have been frustrated with not being able to find full-length recordings,
here is some EXCITING news. Mosaic Records has released a CD set with all
of Nelson's recordings for Impulse and Verve Records. This is a sensational
collection of just about everything that we print of Oliver's. Go to
mosaicrecords.com, and look for Item 233-MD-CD before these sets are all
gone.

The "Kansas City Suite" is recorded on a CD by the North Texas Two'O'Clock
Jazz Band done in 1999 called "A Salute to Benny Carter." This is on the
Klavier label. You can find it at www.cdconnection.com.

There is also a CD of the Bill Potts charts from "The Jazz Soul of Porgy &
Bess." It is called "Porgy & Bess + Bye Bye Birdie" (Lone Hill Jazz), and
can be bought from www.cduniverse.com or www.ejazzlines.com.

SPECIAL CATEGORIES:

There are often questions about which charts were written for the Buddy Rich Band, the Count Basie Band, vocals or a smaller band (specifically a nonet). I have listed below the charts that we sell in these categories.

Buddy Rich Band charts (13)

Count Basie Band charts (22)

Smaller Band charts (7) (usually alto, tenor, barit, 2 tpts, trb, rhythm)

Vocal charts

I often hear from folks that we have so many great charts that they don't
know where to start with their selection.  While that might be a nice
"problem" to have, I encourage you to listen and re-listen to the demo CDs
to jog your memory about past publications.  They never get old or
out-dated, because (in my opinion) most of them are true big band classics.
The demo CDs really do help a lot, and we provide them at the nominal cost
of $1.00 each for the cost of the mailing.  Audio clips for the New Issues
are now available.

Thank you for all of your past support.  We're only able to keep doing what
we are doing because of the continuing help of our ever-growing number of
loyal "customers," friends and colleagues around the world.

Sincerely,

Bob Curnow
